How Long to Return to Normal after Levaquin Toxicity

by L Bowen
(Birmingham AL )

I went to ER one morning b/c I passed out in the bathroom before meeting a friend to run (I was training for a marathon). When I got to the hospital I was told that I had a kidney infection (I have my doubts about that too).

I was treated with a bag of levaquin and given a prescription for cipro. I took one of the cipro later that night with dinner and another the next morning with breakfast. All this time I began having severe pain in joints all over my body. Only 5 days before I did a 20 mile training run and felt great afterward. I hurt so bad the day after my visit to the doctor that I couldn't walk - my husband then took me to another doctor who said that the pain was a side effect of the drugs I'd been given previous.

Three weeks later the pain is less but still there. I've given up on running the marathon I was training for but wonder if I'll be able to run another later. How long does it generally take for the body to return to normal?

That's a Good Question...
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Hi LB,

Unfortunately there is no one that can answer this question for you. Many doctors will tell you (and the FDA as well) that it will just be a couple of months and all will be well and good again.

But if you take a look around the Cipro Tendonitis boards on the internet, that is just not necessarily the case. Every person is different and some heal from it in a few weeks, others in a few months and others never heal.

So, where you fall on that is anyone's guess. The fact that you were a healthy athlete before this started doesn't necessarily give you any better protection or say that you will heal quicker or more fully than anyone else.

My suggestion is to get my book The Levaquin Tendonitis Solution and follow the instructions in it to give you the best odds of recovering fully.

Unfortunately, following the instructions in the book can only increase your odds, there are no guarantees with this disease that most doctors don't even know about and few are looking for an answer to...

Let me know if you have any questions...
