Phenergan, Compazine, Benadryl, Haldol Paradoxical Reactions

I've had paradoxical reactions to several drugs including phenergan, compazine, haldol, and benadryl. The reaction to Benadryl is the only one that is mild. When I take benadryl I'll fall asleep, but wake up in a startle often. With phenergan and compazine I feel as though I need to get out of my own skin. Severe aggitation to the point where I felt as though I'd like to jump off a building rather than feel that way. Like living in a nightmare. Haldol is an antipsychotic that was given to me in the emergency room for a migraine and it made me feel psychotic like I was going crazy.

Haldol
by: Dave in Abq. Nm

I know that Haldol is BAD. In the 80's they experimented with it on my Grandfather. He was in for gallbladder surgery, and became disoriented when he came out of the anesthetic afterwards. He was 83 at the time, and when they gave it to him, be went CRAZY. They did not ask permission to do this, I was his POA, and they called me and told me after the fact what they had done.

When I got there, they had him strapped to a chair in the middle of the room. While I was there he pulled the drainage tube out of his nose, screaming while he did it. He recognized me, but was totally out of his mind. They had put a catheter in him, and I watched him pull it out, the balloon on the end not deflated, and caused extreme bleeding. He "came down" from it a few days later, but he was never the same man after they gave that to him.

His personality changed, it really messed him up. Don't take anything without reading up on it, as the doctor's are not liable for giving it to you, as you signed a consent to be treated, and they are off the hook.

Paradoxical Reaction to Haldol
by: Anonymous

I had to have a scope done. And woke up about a week later due to the fact I was having an extreme paradoxical reaction to Haldol, and the doctors did not know what was going on, they ended up putting me on a haldol drip witch caused me to need to be on a vent. when they did allow me to wake they had a what I now know was an O 2 mask but I thought they were trying to smother me. It's a wonder I did not have a heart attack. they said I almost broke the bed BC of how scared I was.It makes me mad to know all they had to do is give me Benadryl a week sooner and all this stuff could have been prevented.
