(Pakistan)

Hi, i am dr Rida and here is my story ,while finding for solution of my levofloxacin toxicity i came across your site and found it very useful. I really appreciate your work and the awareness you are arousing regarding floroquinolone toxicity.

I SALUTE YOU SIR/MA'AM FOR THIS WONDERFUL JOB.

::::MY STORY::::
I was doing my residency in Radiology while i became exposed to some MULTIDRUG RESISTANT TUBERCULOSIS PATIENT. I got MDR TB from there unfortunately. i have been started with mdr tb medication for a time span of 18 MONTHS. I am still under treatment in 11th month of my treatment. i am taking Levofloxacin 1000mg daily for past 11 months and suffering from continuous joint pains in whole body swelling of both knee joints.

Sounds come from my joints and it seems my cartilage and tendons are continuously being damaged on daily basis , my physical activies are so reduced it seems like i am bed bound i cant run or walk fast my joints ache , i cant even sit on flour in squatting position as its too painful .

i have told all this to my physician but she keeps on insisting that when the treatment will stop all these symptoms will fade away but i dont believe in this because being a physician by myself i knwo whats going on with me.she says she cant stop my medication as my drug regimen will be affected and i would not get cured of my disease

KINDLY HELP OUT ME I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DD. I AM HOPEFUL AND WAITING FOR YOUR REPLY!!!!!

THANX FOR READING AND LISTENING TO MY STORY :))

That's a difficult situation

Hi Dr. Rida,

You are in a very difficult situation that I wish I had the answer to. On one hand, you are being damaged by the Levofloxacin, but your doctors have determined that your illness can only be cured using Levofloxacin.

One thing that you can do is to talk to an infectious disease specialist (if you have not already) and ask to have him go over the drug sensitivity list again and see if they can possibly recommend different antibiotics for the TB. I do not know if there is that option, but it's worth talking to a specialist about.

If you do not have access to an infectious disease specialist where you are, I suspect that you could find one in another country that you could pay to get a second opinion on your laboratory tests and do a 'telemedicine consult' with them to see what they think about your situation.

If it IS determined that the Fluoroquinolones are REALLY the only drugs that you can use for your TB, please get my book The Fluoroquinolone Toxicity Solution and I will personally work with you on the forums and we can discuss how to modify the protocol so that you can do it WHILE you are taking the Levofloxacin so that you can minimize any further damage while you are taking it.

Unfortunately, I wish that I could help you more. There are others who are being treated for Lyme disease that are in a similar situation with not having a choice but to take a Fluoroquinolone in order to get rid of their Lyme Disease. It's an unfortunate choice that I do not have a good answer to solve except to get on my protocol in a modified way in order to help minimize the damage as much as possible.
